Project description: The investment involves construction of A4 highway between Węzeł Wielicka and Węzeł Szarów from 436+000 km to 455+900 km. This investment is a part of the European Transport Corridor no. III running in the East-West line starting from the German border through an industrialised part of Poland. It is also a part of the European E40 roadway. Moreover, it is worth emphasising that it is the first highway being constructed East from the Vistula River.

The scope of the investment involves the construction of a 19.9 kilometre long highway with a “Szarów” highway junction (there is going to be one more junction called “Bieżanów”, but constructed from another contract). Moreover, 30 bridges and bridge-like constructions are going to be build along this section, i.e. 15 highway overbridges, 6 road overbridges, 5 highway bridges, 1 ramp for animals, and 3 road bridges. Furthermore, there will be two traveller service points created for the drivers comfort.

Kraków-Szarów highway will be built in the highest technical A class; the vertical limiting outline shall have 4.7 metres. The bituminous pavement is going to be adjusted for carrying an axle load of 115kN. Each of the two roadways of the highway between Wielickiego junction and “Bieżanów” junction shall have three traffic lanes (3 x 3.75 m wide), and further to the “Szarów” junction two traffic lanes (3.75 m wide each), an emergency lane (3.0 m), as well as a ground shoulder (1.25 m). The roadways are going to be separated by a 5 metre wide dividing centre lane (a 4 metre green belt + a 2 x 0.5 metre bituminous bank).

Moreover, construction of a Highway Maintenance Network is also planned to maintain the highway in the area of Szarów in the bifurcation of A4 highway and national road no. 75. This will secure a constant maintenance of the road, as well as equipment operation, organisation, and traffic safety. In Staniątka and the siding of “Szarów” conjunction there will also be toll collection stations.

ext to the highway there are going to be two category I traveller service points: “Zakrzów” and “Podłęże”, where roofs over tables and benches, sanitary points, and telephone booths were designed. The car park in Zakrzewie has 116 car spaces: 32 spaces for motor trucks and buses, and 72 spaces for cars. Furthermore, at the traveller service point site in Podlęże there are 113 parking spaces: 29 for TIR lorries and buses, and 72 for cars.
